Edinburgh headquartered charity Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) has received a welcome boost with £1,000 of funding from family housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel Homes’ Building Communities Fund.

CHAS is the only charity in Scotland that provides vital hospice services for children and young people with life-shortening conditions. It supports hundreds of families each year through its two hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch, and its homecare service, CHAS at Home.  The donation will help to fund the hospices and the support CHAS provides to families across Scotland.

Marion Vasquez, Marketing & Sales Coordinator and Laura MacKenzie, Field Sales Manager at Mactaggart & Mickel Homes visited Robin House to present the donation, along with some gifts of toys and craft materials for the children.

Mactaggart & Mickel Homes has a history of supporting good causes and the Building Communities Fund was created to continue the company’s ongoing efforts to help organisations and projects which enhance the lives of people within their local communities.

The fund is open throughout the year to applications from charities, community groups, sports teams and schools within a five mile radius of any live Mactaggart & Mickel Homes development, like Barnton Park Wood and Lockhart Woods in Edinburgh.

Joanne Casey, director at Mactaggart & Mickel Homes, commented: “CHAS provides vital support and services to families at the most unimaginably difficult of times. Our team members Laura and Marion were so humbled by their visit to Robin House but also inspired by the amazing work the charity does and we are proud that the Building Communities Fund has played a small part in helping this continue.”

Criona Knight, Corporate Fundraising Manager at CHAS added: “Our services are mainly funded through the generosity of supporters who help us to raise the vital funds needed to provide these hospice services. We are currently supporting over 400 families in Scotland and so Mactaggart & Mickel Homes’ donation is invaluable.”
