Mount Hindrance, Chard

In 2011 Mactaggart & Mickel secured an interest in a 79 acre greenfield site in the market town of Chard in South Somerset. The site is owned by S E Blackburn Discretionary Trust and they carefully selected Mactaggart & Mickel as a developer to assist in delivering a new sustainable mixed use development adjoining the north of Chard.

The proposed urban extension of Chard would enable the relocation of Chard Town Football Club with improved and enhanced facilities for the benefit of the community. It would also provide new employment land and meet existing housing needs through the provision of around 350 new homes with well-located and attractive open spaces. The intention is to create a sustainable and accessible development with a distinctive and attractive character, enhancing Chard’s urban environment with a quality comparable to its stunning natural setting and rich cultural heritage.

We submitted our outline planning application to South Somerset District Council in November 2012 which included a revised Masterplan.  Further to South Somerset District Council refusing our planning application in August 2013, we lodged an appeal, however since was dismissed on grounds that the proposals would prejudice the plans for extension to the east of the town being delivered. Mactaggart and Mickel are currently reviewing its strategic options for this site as it is observed the Council still no longer have a 5 year housing land supply.
