In 2009 Mactaggart & Mickel secured an interest in a 45-acre greenfield site in the large village of Shavington, near Crewe. In 2011 representations were submitted promoting 450 residential homes on the site, which would include local food store provision, small business units and offices.
The proposed urban extension of Shavington would be located to the south of Newcastle Road, creating a range of new homes and equipping the area for population expansion. A planning application for up to 400 homes, local centre and open space with associated cycleways/footpaths and structural landscaping was approved by Cheshire East Council in January 2014. The site has now been sold to leading housebuilders on a phased basis.
