Howwood primary pupil wins competition to name new housing development
A Howwood Primary School pupil has beaten-off tough competition from his classmates to win a Mactaggart & Mickel Homes’ ‘name the development’ contest.
The award-winning family housebuilder challenged the pupils to come up with a suitable name for its new Howwood development and outline the reasons for their choice. The competition attracted over 100 entries.
Robbie Meikle (aged 10 from Primary 4/5 composite class) was selected for his entry, ‘Midton Fields’, which was inspired by the fact that he felt the site looked as though it was “in the middle of a field just off Midton Road.”
Work on the development, which is Mactaggart & Mickel Homes’ first site in the area, began in June on the eastern edge of the village. Once complete, it will consist of a mix of 47 three to five-bedroom semi-detached and detached homes, which are scheduled to be launched in January 2017.
Joanne Casey, director of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes, said: “We are excited to bring our range of quality homes to Howwood. The development is already proving popular as we have received high levels of interest from people looking to find out more about the homes on offer.
“It is important to us to engage with the local communities in which we operate and the project with Howwood Primary School was a great success. We were really impressed with the standard of entries, as well as with the effort the students had put into their suggestions. We felt that Robbie’s entry fitted perfectly with the ethos of the development and I’d like to congratulate him on his win.”
Robbie said: “I was surprised to win because most of the pupils at my school entered the competition. It’s funny to think I’ll be able to walk past a place that I named – it’s so exciting.”
Alan Shields, acting head teacher at Howwood Primary School, said: “Our pupils were keen to get involved with the competition and had lots of creative ideas. We look forward to working with Mactaggart & Mickel Homes in the future as the new Midton Fields development takes shape.”
The homes at Midton Fields have been designed to suit a range of buyers on a site selected especially for its semi-rural location, excellent amenities and local transport links.
Existing styles, including the three-bedroom semi-detached Hughes and five-bedroom detached Adam, are part of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes’ Design Collection range and have already sold successfully at Greenan Views in Ayr. The design and layout of the homes have been planned to maximise natural night and create an open and flowing living space.
Two new house styles will also be available at the site: the three-bedroom Bryce and the four-bedroom detached Burnet.
The first plots at Howwood will be available for Early Bird option in January 2017.
