Builder scoops Home Builder of the Year Award for the second year running

Mactaggart & Mickel Group, the fourth generation family business, has been named Home Builder of the Year for the second year running at the Homes for Scotland Awards. The builder also won Best Medium Development for its innovative Polnoon site in Eaglesham and a further two awards – Best Home Design and the Judges’ Special Award – as part of the City Legacy Consortium which constructed the Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village.

The judges were united in declaring the company Home Builder of the Year once more. With principles of quality, innovation and commitment reinforced throughout its submissions, they praised Mactaggart & Mickel Group as a company clearly focused on effecting positive outcomes. It has also had its standing as one of the industry’s leading companies to work for confirmed with its shortlisting for Best Employer.

Now in their 12th year, the 2014 Awards focused on the themes of ‘driving recovery’ and ‘delivering results’ with categories designed to reflect the areas of greatest industry importance as builders work to overcome remaining barriers to recovery to enable them to deliver the many thousands of homes of all tenures that are needed across the country.

Ed Monaghan, chief executive, Mactaggart & Mickel Group comments: “The past year has continued to be challenging for the industry but as a company we have seen some major projects take shape, from the official opening of our landmark Polnoon development to the completion of 228 homes in the Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village.

“Our focus has been on improving profitability and driving growth without compromising on quality, and thanks to the commitment of our employees we have delivered this. To be recognised with this award is a thank you to each and every one of them for the part they have played in our success.”

Mactaggart & Mickel Group posted a 47% increase in turnover to £56m and profits before tax up 78% to £2.4m for Y/E 30 April 2013.
