Mactaggart & Mickel Group has supported leading figures from Scotland’s home building industry to build a home for a vulnerable family in Mumbai.

Nicola Barclay, chief executive at Homes for Scotland, and Gill Henry of Cruden Homes, along with 11 other women, embarked on a week-long trip during which they built a new home for the family of four designed to withstand the monsoon season.

Mactaggart & Mickel Group donated £250 to the project, which also raised over £10,000 to support charity Habitat for Humanity.

Nicola Barclay commented: “We may still have mud on our boots, brick dust under our nails and aching muscles, but myself and the Women Build team are proud in the knowledge that our efforts have contributed to giving a family a fresh start.

“I am extremely grateful to all those who contributed so generously to our fundraising page and spurred us on.”

Ed Monaghan, chief executive at Mactaggart & Mickel Group, added: “We are extremely proud to support Habitat for Humanity, a charity that works to break the cycle of poverty by enabling people in the developing world to have a safe and decent place to live.

“We’ve supported them previously, having raised over £12,000 as a Hope Builder, so recognise the important work they undertake in over 70 countries across Europe, Africa and South and Central America.

“A home provides a place to look after a family, study and grow, so the difference it is going to make to this family’s life will be amazing. Congratulations to all who took part and worked to help make this happen.”
