Mactaggart & Mickel Group are promoting a major extension to the county town of Taunton in Somerset. Taunton & Deane Council published their Core Strategy in 2012 which allocated land at Comeytrowe/Trull as a broad location for 2,000 homes.
This initial phase of 2,000 homes has been outlined, including the creation of infrastructure upgrades such as the construction of new schools, a local centre with shops and community uses, new roads and pedestrian/cycle routes and substantial areas of new public open spaces as part of a new sustainable community. Working in collaboration with Bovis Homes, Taylor Wimpey and local house builders Summerfield Homes, Mactaggart & Mickel Group submitted a planning application in December 2014. Taunton & Deane Council resolved to approve this planning application in January 2017, subject to a S106 legal agreement subject to 25% affordable housing.
In early 2017, a Viability Submission was presented to the Council to justify the scheme coming forward with a lower proportion of affordable homes. Extensive discussions have been carried out since with Taunton & Deane Council and its advisors on this matter. It is hoped that agreement will soon be reached on the revised S106 package, enabling the granting of outline permission. Mactaggart & Mickel Group will be trading our land interests selling off 240 plots to another housebuilder.
Indicative of our long-term approach to strategic planning, we also have interests in the longer-term mixed use strategic urban extension of 6,000 homes as outlined in the Council’s approved Core Strategy.
