Site Manager Stuart Gillespie saluted for leadership qualities after scooping national accolade

Site Manager Stuart Gillespie has been hailed for “incredible leadership qualities” and “astonishing levels of consistency” with housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel after being honoured by a prestigious national industry body.

Ayrshire-based Stuart was praised after he added a new accolade to his track record when he scooped a runner-up prize in the highly-regarded National House Building Council’s UK Supreme Awards.

The honour, in connection with his work at Mactaggart & Mickel's Greenan Views development in Doonfoot, is the latest in a series of personal successes for Stuart and follows four UK Supreme wins and four UK Supreme runner-up awards as well as 11 NHBC Scottish regional awards.

It recognises Stuart’s pivotal role in overcoming the challenges created by Covid-19 during 2020 when he led a team of company colleagues and sub-contractors whose dedication contributed to this award.

Having won his way through three previous stages of the competition, Stuart was assessed across six key areas affecting - consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.

Stuart, who lives in Wishaw, said:

“I’m really pleased to have had my work singled out for praise but it really is testimony to a brilliant team effort.

“No one has seen anything like 2020, but the way the Greenan Views team and Mactaggart & Mickel have overcome lockdown restrictions and risen to the challenges to build homes of the highest quality has spurred me on.

“We know from customer feedback that our new home-owners have really appreciated everything we’ve done to make sure they enjoy homes of exceptional standards – and that is the ultimate seal of approval.”

NHBC, the UK’s leading new home warranty and insurance provider, launched the first Pride in the Job competition in 1980 to celebrate the UK’s best performing site managers building homes and have become the most highly-regarded competition in the industry.

The awards play a pivotal role in NHBC’s drive to give consumers confidence in the quality of new-build homes and Stuart was runner-up in the medium builder company category for site managers employed by a company or group that builds between 51 and 1,000 new homes with NHBC warranty cover each year.

Ed Monaghan, Mactaggart & Mickel Group Chief Executive, said:

“We are immensely proud of Stuart who is one of those people who has demonstrated incredible leadership qualities and astonishing levels of consistency over the years which prove he’s a brilliant site manager.

“Stuart’s passion, commitment and determination to ensure Mactaggart & Mickel produce homes of exceptional quality at Greenan Views have really come to the fore during 2020 and all the unprecedented challenges the coronavirus pandemic has created.”

Glasgow-based Mactaggart & Mickel, whose headquarters are in Atlantic Quay with offices in London and Cheltenham, is a fourth-generation family business, which was established in 1925, and prides itself on the final quality of its homes and places great emphasis on customer satisfaction.
