Putting Community at the Heart: Mactaggart & Mickel Supports Giffnock Primary Defibrillator Appeal

Giffnock Primary School has celebrated the installation of a new community defibrillator following successful fundraising led by the school’s Parent Council, with support from local donors including a £1,500 contribution from Mactaggart & Mickel.

The defibrillator, now installed at the heart of the school and wider community, was officially launched at a ribbon‑cutting event attended by pupils, staff and local representatives, with Headteacher Mr Lawson joining the school’s House Captains and Councillor Mary Montague, Provost of East Renfrewshire.

The project was driven by the Parent Council as part of a wider appeal, bringing together families, local supporters and organisations to ensure vital life‑saving equipment is accessible for both the school and surrounding community.

Andrew Mickel, Director at Mactaggart & Mickel, said:
“We were pleased to support this important PTAled initiative, which clearly demonstrates the strength of community spirit around Giffnock Primary. Mactaggart & Mickel has longstanding roots in East Renfrewshire, and we are always proud to play our part in projects that make a meaningful difference locally.”

Mr Lawson, Headteacher at Giffnock Primary School, said:
“We are very grateful for the generous support received towards the funding of our community defibrillator. We are delighted that the unit is now in place and fully functional. On behalf of our school community, thank you to everyone who contributed to making this happen.”

The launch event marked the successful conclusion of the appeal and highlighted the impact of collective fundraising in delivering a lasting benefit for the community.
