Scottish Government gives planning approval for Kilmacolm housing development

Mactaggart & Mickel is delighted to announce that, following an extensive public consultation process, the Scottish Government has approved its proposal to develop 75 high-quality new homes at Quarry Drive in Kilmacolm.

Kilmacolm CGIStarting in October 2020, Mactaggart & Mickel undertook a major community engagement exercise, which went far beyond that required by the planning process, and directly contacted all households in the area asking for ideas on how the company could make a positive contribution to Kilmacolm.

The consultation generated many helpful ideas, and as a result outline planning approval was granted at a meeting of the full Inverclyde Council on 4 May 2021. However, the Scottish Government subsequently wanted to review the application – and last week announced that it too would support the proposal.

The development will be sympathetic to the character of Kilmacolm and will help meet the well-documented need for more homes in the area.

Bruce Hampton, Senior Land and Planning Manager at Mactaggart & Mickel, said: “We welcome the Scottish Government’s decision to approve our application, which will help to address a shortage of housing in the area. This decision follows extensive consultation with the local community, and approval by Inverclyde Council more than a year ago.

“We would like to thank everyone who has engaged in this process over recent years. We remain committed to continuing to work with the local Kilmacolm community to deliver a high-quality development that people can be proud of.”
